When you’re getting started learning to play the guitar there are a lot of choices to make but the most important thing is to actually get started. The first thing you’ll need is obviously, a guitar.
The instrument you pick will depend on your musical tastes, of course, but there are a number of choices to consider: What type of guitar do you like? Acoustic or electric? Steel string or nylon string? Solid body or hollow body? Single, double, or no cutaway?
Here are some types to consider:
Watch videos of your favorite guitarists and pay special attention to the types of guitars that they are playing, this will give you a good idea of the kind of sound that you would like to have.
Go to a music store and play different guitars. This will give you a good idea of how comfortable the guitar feels in your hands. Pay attention to the size and thickness of the neck, and how well does the guitar body feel when you’re sitting down or standing up to play it.
The woods and other materials used in the making of the guitar will have an effect on the sound and feel. You may find that after playing for some time, your tastes will change and you will start collecting guitars to fit different types of musical styles.
